The new Skoda Enyaq vRS is the fastest accelerating Skoda ever

A 40bhp power boost has slashed a full second off the Enyaq vRS’s 0-62mph time, with an increase in range to boot

As the race for faster, more efficient and more advanced EVs continues, some manufacturers have accelerated their development plans to remain competitive in this rapidly evolving area of the market. Just one year since Skoda’s Enyaq iV vRS was revealed, the firm has announced a host of powertrain and technology upgrades for its performance SUV, which also gets a shortened name: Enyaq vRS.

Available as a standard SUV or swept back pseudo-coupe, the updated vRS will go on sale later this month packing 335bhp from its dual electric motor setup – 40bhp more than before. The power uplift shaves a second off the car’s 0-62mph time, which at 5.5sec is on par with bonafide hot hatches like the Honda Civic Type R. It’s also quicker than any other Skoda production car in history.

Despite the bump in performance, Skoda has squeezed extra range from the Enyaq vRS’s 77kWh battery pack with new motor calibration and battery management software. The base car achieves 336 miles from a single charge, with the more aerodynamic coupe hitting 340 miles – increases of 15 and 16 miles respectively.

Charging speeds are up too, with the inclusion of 175kW DC rapid charging capability (the outgoing model topped out at 135kW). This enables a 10-80 per cent top up in 28 minutes, compared to 36 minutes previously.

Elsewhere, the new vRS receives a revised infotainment system with a more streamlined user interface. The on-screen climate controls remain, but a reworked layout is designed to make them easier to use on the move, with the Enyaq’s digital instrument panel and optional head-up display also offering clearer graphics.

Pricing for the new Enyaq iV is yet to be announced, but given that these upgrades haven’t required extensive hardware changes, we don’t expect a hefty increase over the current model’s £52,670 starting price.
