New BMW M4 CS announced for 2024

A harder, faster BMW M4 CS is in the works for 2024, with chassis and powertrain upgrades borrowed from the M3 CS

BMW has confirmed it will introduce a new M4 CS in 2024. Speaking at the launch of the i5 M60 XDrive, BMW M CEO Frank van Meel outlined the product strategy for the firm’s performance brand, which will include mid-life facelifts for the M3 saloon and M4 coupe, the introduction of a new V8 hybrid-powered M5 saloon and Touring and a new M4 CS.

The latest BMW M CS model will build on the upgrades introduced on the M3 CS saloon earlier this year and follow in the tyre tracks of the eCoty-winning M2 and M5 CS models. Chassis changes will see new axle kinematics, revised camber settings, new auxiliary springs and anti-roll bars. Pirelli’s P Zero Corsa tyre will also be fitted.

As with the M3 CS, the M4 CS will utilise BMW’s XDrive four-wheel drive transmission complete with the saloon’s upgraded rear-differential and a revised oil-cooling system. Upgrades to the M4 CS’s S58 three-litre straight-six are expected to follow the saloon’s, with a revised turbocharger pressure from 1.7 to 2.1 bar and a remapped ECU. As a result peak power will increase by 39bhp to 542bhp with a peak torque figure of 479lb ft. Drive will be via an eight-speed auto gearbox.

Expect a 0-62mph sprint time of 3.2-seconds, a 188mph maximum speed and a kerb weight of around 1750kg.

As with the saloon the new M4 CS will benefit from a series of design changes, including a more prominent front splitter, deeper side sills and a larger rear diffuser. Inside, BMW M’s carbon buckets will be standard along with other now traditional CS interior upgrades including alcantara trim and the removal of the central storage compartment. It’s not known if the M4 CS will be offered with a rear seat bench or individual bucket seats as in the M5 CS.

2024 will be another busy year for BMW M, with those updates to the regular M3/4 models expected to be introduced in the spring and the M4 CS later in the summer, with a price tag in the region of £120,000. At the same time the all-new M5 saloon and Touring will also be launched, featuring the 738bhp twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid assisted powertrain introduced in the XM.
