Alpine posts 33 per cent global growth in sales in 2022

2022’s been an encouraging year from Alpine ahead of its huge expansion plans

Alpine has posted a 33 per cent increase in global registrations in 2022 compared to its previous year, recording sales of 3546 units. This was achieved through impressive growth in all key markets, despite the decline in overall new car sales by 4.5 per cent. The French sports car brand is only set to grow in the coming year, too, with the launch of new derivatives including the A110 R that will sit right at the top of the existing range.

Two thirds of all total sales were made up from high-specification S and GT models, the latter proving to be a popular addition to the range by combining the S’s 297bhp powertrain with the base car’s more road-focused chassis setup.

This year also saw three limited-run specials introduced including the A110 GT J. Rédélé, A110 Tour de Corse 75 and A110 R F. Alonso, all of which sold out their allotted build runs in under 30 minutes.

Showing the biggest increase of Alpine’s top six markets has been the UK with 288 units registered representing a 43 per cent increase over 2021, followed closely by Germany with a 42 per cent rise (303 units) and Japan at 39 per cent (238 units). By far the biggest market continues to be France, with 2138 registrations, representing a 32 per cent increase.

A110

Alpine’s also been shoring up its market presence with the addition of 40 new outlets across all markets. As well as diversifying sales opportunities in new areas, they’re also there to support Alpine’s planned expansion starting in 2024, when it becomes Renault’s high performance pure-EV brand with three new models on the cards including a hot version of the R5 hatchback that’s due next year, a compact crossover and new all-electric sports car being co-developed by Lotus.

In the short term, though, 2023 will be the year of the new A110 R, the most focused, lightest and most expensive variant of the A110 yet. Alpine’s already banked a strong order book for its forthcoming flagship, something we suspect will grow when we get to drive it in the coming months.
